This 9-day tour package of Machu Picchu and Amazon Basin takes you to an exotic journey that traverses the majestic ancient town of Cusco, on to the Sacred Valley and snowcapped mountains of the Inca Empire. You can then continue to the hidden city of Machu Picchu and explore the famed ruins in all their glory reminiscing the glorious past of the Incas. Then sail across the Amazon by riverboat and explore the Tambopata River and Tambopata National Reserve Tambopata River where you can marvel at the exotic rainforest full of unique animal and plant life.

Day 1 – International Arrival Assistance
Arrive in Lima at any time. Our representative will be waiting for you at Lima airport with a customized sign with your name on it and private transfer to your hotel.
There are no planned activities, so check into the hotel and rest up – Overnight at the Hotel in Lima

Day 2 – Lima City Tour
Breakfast at Hotel; morning free to relax; we recommend you to take a long rest and be prepared to begin with this unforgettable Peru tour through our wonderful country.
Pick-up from your hotel at 2:30PM we will first show you a panoramic view of “La Huaca Pucllana”. This breathtaking piece of architecture was built back in the 4th century AD and holds religious significance for the Incas. Then you will visit the impressive Historical Downtown of Lima, also known as “the City of the Kings”, which is the cradle of its Colonial past. Stops include the Main Square of Lima, upon which sits the Government Palace, the Cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace. Afterwards, you will visit San Francisco Covent; the high-point of this tour will be the visit to Catacumbas, ending with a visit to the residential and financial district of San Isidro and an unforgettable view of the Pacific Ocean from the district of Miraflores, then transfer to Hotel. Day 3 – Flight to Cusco and City Tour & Archeological ruins
Breakfast at hotel; pick up from the hotel and transfer to the airport for your flight to Cusco, the ancient Inca capital of the Incas. On arrival in Cusco, assistance at the airport and transport to your hotel, where the rest of the morning is free time to rest in hotel in order to avoid altitude sickness.
Pick up from the hotel at 1:20PM the tour will start from Cusco’s Main Square. On entering Cusco’s cathedral, you will be able to see the intricate woodwork and the colonial paintings that contain detailed Incan iconography. After that you will head to the Temple of the Sun or Qorikancha upon which the Convent of Santo Domingo has been built. According to a legend, this temple was entirely gold plated and many conquerors were impressed by its magnificence when they came here. The tour continues with visits to 4 archeological sites, starting with the Sacsayhuaman archeological complex, a masterpiece of Incan architecture in which you will see mindboggling huge stone blocks, almost 9 meters in height, placed perfectly. Next is the Qenqo temple, dedicated to animal worship. Then, Puca Pucara, another Incan archeological site located on top of a hill and used as a fort and administrative center. Last, there is Tambomachay, a place also known as the Inca Baths. Overnight at the Hotel in Cusco

Day 4 – Full day to Sacred Valley (Pisac, Ollantaytambo)
Breakfast at hotel; you will be picked up from your hotel at 7:45AM. Travel back in time to the Sacred Valley of the Incas with a day that begins in Pisac, 31 km from Cusco. The old city, an Incan archeological site, is located at the top of a mountain, and there you will witness firsthand the stonemasonry skill of our ancient ancestors. Afterwards, you will descend to the town and walk through its colorful market; where you can buy beautifully crafted locally hand-made products. Afterwards, lunch will be served at a local restaurant.
Following, you set off for Ollantaytambo, an Incan military, religious, and agricultural center located at the top of a mountain. But unlike other small towns, this one has maintained its original Incan design, featuring stone buildings and narrow streets. It was a fortress and an administrative and urban center.
Stop in Ollantaytambo from where we catch the train to Aguas Calientes, upon arrival to Aguas Calientes, reception and transfer to your hotel. Overnight at the Hotel in Aguas Calientes

Day 5 – Sunrise in Machu Picchu & Train back to Cusco
Breakfast at the hotel; at 5:00AM take first bus to Machu Picchu citadel, you will ride a bus to Machu Picchu archeological site and tour every nook and cranny of this New 7 Wonder of the World and UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site: an unforgettable experience. Your guide will expertly direct you throughout the astounding ruins and its main streets. You can then wander around the town squares as well as climb the intricately carved stairways made of stone. Machu Picchu is considered as the world’s spiritual center by esoteric wisdom. Once the guided tour is over, you will have some free time to explore the site on your own, to relax, or to meditate.
You will then have time to indulge in a few of the following activities on your own (not included in the price)
– Climb up Huayna Picchu and appreciate the beauty and magnificence of Machu Picchu from there.
– You will be given some time to walk till the Sun Gate or Inti Punku.
– Other optional activities in Aguas Calientes include a visit to the new local museum or to the hot springs.
Train to Cusco: You will descend to Aguas Calientes and, later on, board the train for the return trip to Cusco. On reaching Cusco train station, reception and transfer to your hotel. Overnight at the Hotel in Cusco

Day 6 – Flight to Puerto Maldonado – Tambopata Lodge
Breakfast at the hotel; pick up from the hotel and transfer to Cusco airport for your flight to Puerto Maldonado; when you arrive from Cusco, you will be welcomed at the airport and then taken to the headquarters of Puerto Maldonado on a 10-minute drive. You will be asked to pack up the most essential gear for 4 days and leave the rest of your stuff in the safe deposit at the headquarters. You will be driven from Puerto Maldonado to Tambopata River Port which is 20 kilometers drive away. You will then enter into Infierno’s Native Community. The manager of the lodge will welcome you on your arrival and will explain some essential navigation and some security tips.
You will then go on a walk of twenty minutes from Posada Amazonas towards the 30 meter Canopy Tower. There are banister stairs that run through the middle of the tower and is a safe access towards the platform. Once you reach the top of the scaffolding tower, you will get to see the breathtaking view of the area surrounding by forest which is cut by Tambopata River in the middle. You can witness macaws, parrots and toucans flying by and maybe some other species of birds on the treetops nearby. Once you return to the lodge, you can attend the daily presentation of Infierno ecotourism project presented by the staff – Overnight at the Posada Amazonas Lodge

Day 7 – Tres Chimbadas Oxbow Lake & Ethnobotanical Tour
After an early breakfast, you can visit Tres Chimbadas Oxbow Lake. You will take a thirty minutes boat ride and will have to hike for forty five minutes. Once you reach the lake, you will paddle around in a catamaran and can look for the family of nine river otters. These resident giant otters have been witnessed by almost 60% of the lake visitors. These otters are usually more active from dawn till 9 am. Apart from the otter, you will also witness other wildlife like horned screamers, hoatzin and caiman.
You will then go on an Ethnobotanical tour which is 20 minutes boat ride downriver. The boat ride will lead you towards a trail that has been designed by Centro Ñape’s staff. Centro Ñapeia an organization that produces medicines from the plants available in the forest and then administers them for the patients coming in their clinic. The trial produced by them demonstrates different plant medicines and their uses.
Once you return to the lodge, you can go out on a night walk. During this time the animals are rarely seen but are very active. You can hear their sounds and movements. Though, you will be able to see frogs with bizarre sounds and shapes. Overnight at the Posada Amazonas Lodge

Day 8 – Parrot Clay Lick & Ceiba Trail Hike
From Posada Amazonas, it’s a 20 minute walk to parrot clay lick. Through a blind situated 20 meters away, you will be able to witness numerous parakeets and parrots descending on the river bank to consume the clay. You will be able to see species like dusky headed parakeets, blue headed parrots, yellow and mealy headed Amazon descending on the parrot clay lick. This lick is most active in mid-afternoons, late mornings and at dawn.
In order to go see the Ceiba Tree, you will embark on a hike of two hours from Posada Amazonas. The giant Ceiba tree is crowned as the largest tree in the area. This hike’s main focus will be on this rain forest’s history and its main taxonomic group.
Afterwards, you will go to visit a farm on a boat which is 30 minutes downriver. This is a complete farm in Infierno community. The owner of the farm has grown a wide range of unknown and popular crops of Amazon. Almost each tree and plant on this garden serves a purpose. Overnight at the Posada Amazonas Lodge

Day 9 – Departure from Lodge – Flight to Lima – Connect at International Flight
Breakfast at lodge; transfer by boat – Lodge to Tambopata River port then to Puerto Maldonado, we retrace our river and road journey back to Puerto Maldonado, our office and the airport. Depending on airline schedules, this may require dawn departures. Flight to Lima where you can connect at the same airport for International flight
Most groups will take the flight from Puerto Maldonado to Lima connecting from there to international flights.
