Canopy Walkway at Amazon Rainforest Reserve

Hike to the Canopy Walkway, a suspended bridge spanning over 500 meters (one-third of a mile), connected by tree platforms and reaching a height of over 35 meters (115 feet) above the ground. Here there is time to observe a part of the rainforest rarely seen by man but accessible without any type of climbing skill or equipment.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Day 01 - Iquitos / ExplorNapo Lodge

Reception at the airport or hotel and transfer to the Explorama dock; 25 miles journey down the Amazon River to Ceiba Tops where your Amazon adventure begins; transfer by boat on the Amazon and Napo Rivers to the 250,000 acre Amazon Rainforest Reserve and ExplorNapo Lodge; afternoon hike through primary, terra firme, non-flooding rainforest including a visit to the ReNuPeRu Medicinal Plant Garden adjoining the lodge. Evening excursion by open boat along the Sucusari Stream in search of caiman and to enjoy the night sounds and stars of the Southern sky; overnight ExplorNapo Lodge

Day 02 - ExplorNapo Lodge

Early morning birding excursion; morning hike to the Canopy Walkway, a suspended bridge spanning over 500 meters (one-third of a mile), connected by tree platforms and reaching a height of over 35 meters (115 feet) above the ground. Here there is time to observe a part of the rainforest rarely seen by man but accessible without any type of climbing skill or equipment. Afternoon boating excursion along one of the Napo tributaries spotting for sloth, birding and having a try at fishing for piranha; overnight ExplorNapo Lodge

Day 03 - ExplorNapo Lodge / Iquitos

Early morning birding by boat or foot; morning excursion to visit some of the local river people called "ribereños" whose houses and schools are seen along the river. They will be pleased to show you their simple way of life dominated by the movements of the mighty rivers that surround them. Early lunch and start on your return to civilization by boat on the Amazon and Napo Rivers back to Iquitos. Transfer to the airport or hotel.

Due to the ever-changing nature of the rainforest, day-by-day activities may vary due to local conditions.

Note: Additional Nights at Ceiba Tops can be added to the “Weekend Special” program for US$ 115 per person per night. Single supplement US$ 30 per single per night.

Important: Arrival to Iquitos after 16:00 requires the first night in an Iquitos hotel with transfer to Explorama’s lodges the following morning.

 

Not included in the fee:
International airfares, domestic flights, airport departure (US$30 per person for international flights and US$6.5 for national flights) taxes or visa fees, excess baggage charges, additional nights during the trip due to flight cancellations, alcoholic beverages or bottled water, snacks, insurance of any kind, laundry, phone calls, radio calls or messages, reconfirmation of flights and items of personal nature, personal equipment, obligatory personal insurance and meals which are not mentioned.

 

Things you should bring:

• Sleeping bag.
• Binoculars, Camera and film ASA 200 and 400 for the inner forest.
• Warm clothing (in case of a cold front), long sleeve shirts and long pants (cotton).
• 100% waterproof rain gear (long poncho or rain wear).
• Insect repellant (at least 50% deet), sunscreen lotion.
• One pair of lightweight ankle height boots and sandals.
• Flashlight, enough batteries (alkaline) and bulbs.
• Wide brim hat (for sunny days), sun glasses.
• Towel, swimming suit, personal medicines and/or supplies (liquid for contact lenses, for example).
• Day pack, and one back pack or duffel bag of luggage per person.
