The
Ancasqocha program, take us by impressive mountains of the
southern Andes in Cusco. Adventure specially prepared for
people who love the nature, the Andean high places, by its
quiet and mainly by the contact with the Quechua speaking
inhabitants who even keeps many Inka customs. This is one
of the intact routes, that in a comparison with the famous
Inka trail to Machupicchu is not frequented by travelers.
This hike is offered only by few companies, which give
advantage to find well preserved landscapes which keeps
its wild fauna and flora. Ancasqocha offers to visitors,
Andean beautiful high Valleys, snow-covered picks such as:
(Salkantay, Second High Mountain in Cusco 6.271m.a.s.l.
Humantay, Huayanay and others), also colorful lakes such
as (Salkantay, Ancashqocha and others) are seen. In this
adventure we can see Original Inka trails missed in to the
mountains and covered by the passing of time, this trail
formerly connected to Limatambo Mollepata, Machupicchu,
Choquekirao, Tumibamba and Chinchaysuyo regions. Condors
can be seen in this hike, which usually near by the knot
of Vilcanota, also otherAndean birds and animals such as:
the Andean foxes, deer, and more.
Trip Itinerary
Day 01: Cusco - Mollepata - Soraypampa - Salkantaypampa
Bus from Cusco to Mollepata (approx. 3 1/2 hours), on the
way to Mollepata we'll briefly stop off at the ruins of
Tarawasi - an Inca temple with one of the finest examples
of Inca polygonal masonry in a long retaining wall. From
Mollepata we continue one hour more by car until Soraypampa
where we'll have our lunch. Today we'll hike from the pastures
village of Soraypampa. After about 2 hours trekking we'll
arrive to our camping place. Our campsite for the night
is at the feet of the most majestic and impressing mountains
of this area such as Salkantay (6264m) and Humantay (5217m).
The campsite is called Salkantaypampa and it’s situated
at 3800meters. We’ll be hiking about 6 hours in a
rather cold climate.

Day 02: Salkantaypampa - Occoruro
After breakfast, with muleteers and safety horses we start
the long hike, from this place we’ll walk by four
hours approximately towards the high step way. Taking the
right flank of the valley we will arrive at Inkachiriaska
pass at 5050m.m.a.s.l., from this point we can over view
the amazing landscapes of the area, such the closely impetuous
snow-capped Salkantay known as the sacred mountain since
ancient times, passing this place we will descend to Toqtoqasa
by a easy down hill trail. This day the trail offer us its
beauty, only seen in the southern Peruvian Andes, all the
journey is about 7 hours walk. In the trail we will observe
the flight of the condor, eagles and many Andean animals;
our camp site is really quiet and cozy, surrounded by landscapes
of dream at 3600m.s.n.m. We continue by narrow and straw
covered trail, this takes approximately four hours to the
camp site at 3900m.a.s.l.

Day 03: Occoruro – Ancasqocha
In the morning of this day we can pass by a nice reddish
sandy mountain called Accoqasa, to get this point is needed
approximately 3 hours of good energy. From the top with
help of binocular we will appreciate the famous Inka trail
which leads to Machupicchu that, also see the salkantay,
Humantay, and Huayanay Mountains and far on the way we can
observe Huacaywillka (Sacred Tears). On the way we can see
a small archaeological site called Inka-raqay, closer to
this we can take a brief stop, beautiful landscape, small
lakes which shelters typical birds of this regions such
Huallatas, Ducks and many others which migrates from different
places are seen in this highland. After lunch we walk by
an easy trail until Ancasqocha Lagoon at 3700m.a.s.l. where
our tents will be fixed.

Day 04: Ancasqocha – Chillka
After a nutritious breakfast we will walk just down hill
by 5 hours approximately to get Chillka the trail end. But
before this we will pass by small villages observing Andean
valleys with its typical vegetation trees such as chachacoma,
qewña, some orchids, begonias, and bromeliads that
adorn the landscape. We take the train around 4:00pm to
Aguas Calientes. Spend the night in a nice hotel.

Day 05: Machu Picchu - Cusco
Early wake up (by 05: 30 a.m.), Breakfast and after to leave
our Luggage at the Hotel, we will take the early Tourist bus
Up to Machu Picchu, of Course with a guide English speaking,
Usually we use to get Machu Picchu by 6:50am., so from this
time we will be able to visit Machu Picchu of course at this
time Machu Picchu is pretty empty and we will have the best
chance to enjoy the beauty and the magic of Machu Picchu,
because at this time is quiet. A guided tour of about 2:30
hours, and then you will have "happy hour time",
to explore by yourself the whole site for about 3 hours and
there is time as well to climb Huayna Picchu mountain and
get the best view over Machu Picchu it takes 1:40pm minutes
round trip time, or option to go to the temple of the moon
which is located behind Huayna Picchu Mountain. Meals (Breakfast)
