Titicaca Lake Uros and Amantani Island full day Tour
|
Titicaca (Stone Puma) has lived a long life of millions of
years. It contains the sum of all the ages that have molded
and defined the works that humans have undertaken in the southern
Americas. Over this span of time, that reaches back some two
million years, its body of water has been much larger, and
encompassed areas today covered in salt flats and wasteland.
Lake Titicaca is the world's highest lake navigable to
large vessels, lying at 12,500 feet (3,810 m) above sea
level in the Andes Mountains of South America, astride the
border between Peru to the west and Bolivia to the east.
Titicaca is the second largest lake of South America.
Traditional Titicaca Lake 1 day
Day 01: Lake Titicaca: Floating Islands of the Uros and
the Taquile Island.
We'll pick you up from your hotel between 7:30 to 8:00 am
then we take a two-hour motor boat excursion on the waters
of Lake Titicaca to the unique Floating "Islands"
of the Uros. These ancient inhabitants of the lake, known
as the Water Tribe, have built their own "islands"
by periodically adding new layers of a type of reed unique
to the area called "totora". Their homes and boats
are also made from this material. We continue our motor
boat trip to Taquile island, inhabited by Quechua-speaking
natives who have developed efficient and unique social systems,
as well as fine hand weaving techniques, down through the
generations. It is necessary to go up a stairway of more
than 567 steps - streaks of stone that wind their way among
greenery platforms - to arrive at the town of Taquile where
we will have a break to eat. After lunch at a local Taquile
inn, we take a walk through the various hills and archaeological
sites of this 6km long island. In the afternoon, return
to Puno for overnight at selected hotel. (Lunch Included).
Price per person: US$ 55.00 (Shared service).

Sillustani
Funeral Towers Puno
|
Mysterious burial chambers; some 35 km (21
miles) from Puno is Sillustani, with its circular burial towers
or chullpas overlooking Lake Umayo. The age of the funeral
towers, which are up to 12 meters (40 feet) high, remains
a puzzle. A Spanish chronicle-keeper described them as "recently
finished" in 1549, although some still appear as if they
were never completed and the Indians that built them were
conquered by the Incas about a century earlier. The chullpas
apparently were used as burial chambers for nobles of the
Colla civilization; these were Indians who spoke Aymara, had
architecture considered more complicated than that of the
Incas and who buried their nobility with their entire family.
Itinerary; Breakfast and visit to the
archaeological center of Sillustani. We will observe impressive
funeral tombs belonging to the Kolla culture (1200-1450).
Their noble class (Caciques, priests) were buried in funeral
towers called chullpas. Their corpses were previously mummified
and placed in fetus position together with some of their
belongings, such as gold and silver objects, jewelry, ceramics,
and food. End of services.
Daily departures from Puno.
Prices per person: US$35
