One
of the most popular trekking routes in the Colca Canyon is
the trail that links the town of Cabanaconde and Tapay in
a circuit that takes two to three days and gives hikers views
of impressive landscapes, Cabana towns such as Cosnihua and
Malata, and many pre-Hispanic ruins. For the trekking in the
Colca Canyon you don't need to have a lot of experience of
hike, Arequipa and Colca Canyon are the best place for to
become acclimatized.
Itinerary
Day 01: Arequipa - Condor Cross - San Juan of Chuccho
At 06:00 am we will pick you up from your hotel in Arequipa,
orientation about our trek and journey of 6 hours to Colca
Canyon - Cabanaconde village, located in the left rim of the
Canyon. Start trekking in the Colca Canyon descending 4 hours
to the Colca River (2160 meters), the trek continues deep
inside the Canyon appreciating the beautiful places. We will
cross to the other side of the Canyon and ascend to our family
cabins or camping place. In the afternoon arrival to the lodge
and short walk to the San Juan de Chuccho village (2300 meters
above sea level). Get together with the children and locals
from this valley, participation in agricultural and other
activities. Campfire, dinner and rest. (L+D).
Day 02: San Juan of Chuccho - Sangalle (Oasis)
After breakfast the trek begin long ascent to our next village
called Tapay (3000 meters high). Visit Cosñirhua
and Malata (2600 meters above sea level) its church of mixed
racial ancestry, sights of the local landscape, very old
terraces, snow-capped summits, varieties of flora and fauna.
At 13:00 am Descend again to the Colca River and arriving
to the Oasis or Sangalle Valley (2100 meters above sea level)
and accommodation in the cabins or camping, relax at the
swimming pool, lunch and exploration to the abandoned mines,
waterfalls and fish for trout in the Colca river, time to
relax and enjoy the natural resource. (B+L+D).
Day 03: Cabanaconde - Chivay - Arequipa
At down after a warm and energetic breakfast begins the ascent
from the Oasis toward the village of Cabanaconde where will
be arriving after 4 hours. We walk up 1100 meters; this is
the last hard and steep trail of this excursion. From Cabanaconde
we will go by card for 30 minutes to the Condor's Cross lookout,
viewing many small towns all around the Colca Valley, located
in the high part of this canyon. Optional visit to the Hot
Springs Thermal swimming pools in Chivay, 3600 meters above
sea level. After the luch in Chivay back four hours to Arequipa.
