Climbing to the Summit of the Chachani VolcanoChachani (6075m/19926ft) is the highest of the volcanoes near the city of Arequipa in southern Peru. Its name means “skirt” in Quechua, and a female character is normally attributed to the mountain in local legends. The altitude is the biggest concern for climbers. ![]() Day 01 - Arequipa - Base CampPick up from the hotel; and transport in a private car to start our excursion to Chachani volcano, our route is by Cabrerias, Cañahuas, National Reserve of Aguada Blanca, on the way we can watch the wild vicuñas near El Misti and Chachani Mountains. We stop into the national reserve of Aguada Blanca and Salinas, there is possible to appreciate the wonderful like Vicuñas, Guanacos, Eagles, Viscachas, Deer's sometimes Condors. After we start the climb for east side until 5200m/17056ft sandy slope, with reddish colorations, ash and volcanic tufo Meals included: Lunch, Dinner
Day 02 - Summit of Chachani and return to ArequipaHot breakfast; we start of the ascension to attack the summit very early at 03:00, From the base camp to Chachani summit (6070m/19910ft) takes between 4 - 6 hours doing slow steps and battling with the altitude, the climb follow single track through el Angel, Fatima a finally Chachani slopes. After attack the top, we have for a nice time getting spectaculars views from landscape of Coropuna, Ampato, Hualca Hualca, Sabancaya, Misti, Ubinas, etc. After the stay at the top of Chachani, we go back down approximately 2 or 3 hours to our base camp, downhill depend how strong you will feeling after reach the summit, lunch at the base camp and after packing all the camping equipment 15 minutes of descend to our private 4X4 vehicle. Then will drive two hours to come back to the hotel in Arequipa Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch |
